Fraud guidelines for deduction
Fraud in the mobile industry is actively increasing. Therefore, it is the duty of Mobile networks to be transparent about fraud and create awareness towards their clients of what exactly fraud means. At TyrAds we determine the following types of fraud that are most costly for our clients and have therefore strict rules on them.
- New device ratio fraud
- Install hijacking
- Click spamming
- Bot traffic
- Incent fraud
New device ratio fraud:
Definition: (Also know as Device ID reset fraud) is a cycle of fraudulent activity in which fraudsters click on ads, install an app, generate in-app engagement, and later reset the device ID before uninstalling and reinstalling the app to simulate new installs.
We make all analyses by a sub_source level of atleast 10 downloads. When the total amount of downloads comes below the minimum threshold the source as a whole will be analyzed.
When a sub_source has 10 downloads and the new device ratio is 100% the source will be deemed fraud.
When a sub_source has 25 downloads and the new device ratio is 75% or above the source will be deemed fraud.
When a sub_source has 50 downloads and the new device ratio is 50% or above the source will be deemed fraud.
The only exception of a 100% new device ratio and is not deemed fraud is in the case of pre-install sources. Pre-install campaigns may only be used as source with explicit consent of Tyrads in the case this is not mentioned it will still be considered fraud.
Install Hijacking
Definition: is a class of mobile fraud that uses mobile malware to hijack attribution for an install.
We make all analyses by a sub_source level of atleast 10 downloads. When the total amount of downloads comes below the minimum threshold the source as a whole will be analyzed.
When a sub source has 10 downloads and more than 50% of downloads come under 15 seconds the source will be deemed fraud.
When a sub_source had 25 downloads and more than 40% of downloads comes under 15 seconds the source will be deemed fraud.
When a sub_source has 50 downloads and more than 20% of downloads comes under 15 seconds the source will be deemed fraud.
Click spamming
Definition: A class of mobile fraud that encompasses fraudulent or forced click reporting. Common types of click fraud include forced clicks, fraudulent clicks such as bot clicks, click flooding, click injection, click redirection, mislabeled clicks from incentivized campaigns and the misreporting of impressions and video views reported as clicks.
We make all analyses by a sub_source level of atleast 10 downloads. When the total amount of downloads comes below the minimum threshold the source as a whole will be analyzed.
When a sub source has 10 downloads and more than 50% of downloads come after 2 hours the source will be deemed fraud.
When a sub_source had 25 downloads and more than 40% of downloads comes after 2 hours the source will be deemed fraud.
When a sub_source has 50 downloads and more than 30% of downloads comes after 2 hours the source will be deemed fraud.
Also any sub_source or source as a whole will be deemed fraud when the CR is below 0.1% this is to protect our clients other marketing efforts.
Bot Traffic
Definition: Bot traffic is the part of online traffic and activities artificially generated by automated bots and spiders.
We make all analyses by a sub_source level of atleast 100 downloads. When the total amount of downloads comes below the minimum threshold the source as a whole will be analyzed.
Bot traffic will be considered fraud when a clear sign of un-human behavior has been shown in the post install event data. We have the following examples of un-human behavior.
When a key performance indicator (KPI) is Day 7 Retention rate and this is achieved by a sub_source but the Retention event I s not triggered on Day 2-3-4-5-6 Tyrads will see this a Bot traffic and deem it fraud.
When a sub_source is achieving all the key performance indicators (KPIs) and there is a drop in all user engagement after this KPI that is far beyond the normal drop in user engagement Tyrads will define this as Bot traffic and deem it fraud.
Incent fraud
Definition: When a source used incent traffic and sells it as non-incent traffic.
We define the following types of incent fraud.
When a sub source has 10 downloads and less than 10% of users returned to the app on Day 1 (1 day after install day)
When a source uses an incent wall as a source.
When a user is incentivized to do an in-app event, for example: complete a tutorial, complete a Registration or make an in-app purchase.
Unless explicitly mentioned by Tyrads that these types of traffic sources are allowed for a specific campaign any of the above are seen as fraud.
